Q: What do you mean by "generously sized" fashions? A: Big on Style carries sizes 14 and up. We coined the phrase "generously sized fashions" to describe plus size and other "free sized" clothing that will fit well and flatter women with fuller figures.
Q: Are plus size clothes cut differently than missy sizes? A: Yes. Most of the plus size and supersize clothing we choose is made specifically for plus size customers-they are not retrofitted missy pieces. Such details as sleeve length and inseam, rise and other key fit issues cannot simply be "graded up" from missy sizes for larger women. You may have experienced the poor fit this approach leads to. Manufacturing specifically for plus size women makes all the difference. Our customers find it provides a much better fit and feel.
Q: Why do sizes vary so much between labels? A: Like all fashions, plus size clothing is produced by many different manufacturers. And in today's global market, they are made all over the world. Each manufacturer sets its own standards and creates its own patterns. Each emphasizes different aspects and feature different cuts. At Big on Style, we work to find and do business with dependable companies with good quality control programs. As a consumer, when you find a plus size line that fits well for your body type and style, you want to be able to rely on that label to work reliably and well.
Q: What's a 0X? A: Plus sizes are often shown in X-sizing. We're all used to seeing 1X, 2X, 3X and so on. 0X is smaller than 1X. It is roughly equivalent to a 14-16, or an XL in missy sizing.
Q: Is all of your clothing made of natural fibers? A: Most of our fashion offerings are made of natural fibers, including familiar favorites like silk, cotton and linen. Several relatively new natural fibers, like rayon and tencel, are also very popular. We also carry a few plus size fashions in polyester, nylon and other blends. All items offered on our website identify the fabric content, as well as basic care instructions.
Q: I see many different pant lengths these days-what's the difference? A: Today's fashions give us lots of choice in pant lengths. Here's how we interpret the options: Ankle pants: Hit right around the ankle bone. Not quite full length, or "long" pants. Capri pants: Capri style pants are usually tapered and fall several inches below the knee. Crop pants: Longer than a Capri, and shorter than an ankle pant, this length will often fall several inches above the ankle. Flood pants: Usually not tapered, floods are wide-legged pants that fall several inches above the ankle. Palazzo pants: Very wide legged, full length pants. Full length or long pants: Generally reach the top of the shoe.
Q: I've heard the terms "apple" and "pear" applied to body types. What does that mean? A: An "Apple" carries more of her weight at and around the waist and above. A "Pear" carries more weight in the hips and thighs. Apple shaped plus size women will look for more room in the shoulders, bust and, perhaps, straighter styles. Pear shaped women will seek out a-line or swing styles that provide extra room in the hip area.
